Hello! So today, its a retrospection of how I started Musing and Realizing.
Things to look out for!
- Select a host like WordPress, Blogger, or Wix.
- Choose a name- Mine is Musing and Realizing
Fun fact: It was musings and realizing at first. - Then choose the theme. It’s essential. Because how you organize stuff is important for you when you sometimes have to categorize or check.
- Just write what you feel like. And add Grammar plugins.
Now, mine is a WordPress blog. So I’ll tell you my facts.
When I started the blog last year, it was a free one, without a business plan. It’s cool as you have many awesome free themes. You get to organize your posts in pages. This is confusing at first, but as you start working on it, you will get comfortable. For example, this is like writing in a book which is divided into parts so specific stuff is written in a specific part.
For starters, it is completely okay.
And if you need mailing lists like most writers use, you have to check the plans and plugins. There’s also E-Commerce stuff. You can also make your own customisations using custom CSS. Finally, it depends on what kinds of buttons and blocks you want to use.
The really important thing to focus on is your homepage. I used a video background as I was really interested in making a dynamic website and so far, it’s just baby steps towards that goal. There’s Elementor plugin which is really helpful.
So, I had mainly three categories in my posts and for that, I added three pages. I always used the cover picture from Pexels. And it was cool.
But later, I was learning HTML and CSS, so I got the business plan. I chose many themes only for one reason, video background.
And because I can use custom CSS, it’s awesome. I haven’t got to that yet. Also, many plugins are now available in the theme itself because the themes are now in the plan I chose.
I have some things to tell you about the initial website.
- You can add posts to the pages you categorize.
- Also, now SEO- Search Engine Optimisation is working, so choose the title of the post well.
- Add some visual stuff to your posts. Its easy to read that way and honestly, I saw many tutorials telling to add videos and stuff like that so readers can better understand.
- Choose plugins so some additional features are added to your site.
- You can use many kinds of blocks to make your content attractive. Like a block that adds a video background to the paragraph. It’s cool.
- Add lists and anything that makes you feel will be good.
So this is what I have learned. I’ll make edits when I learn more.
